In one scenario, the parent is aware that action should be taken to lower the temperature while in the other the child should be getting to an appropriate hospital. Being confident in your decision at 2 am could be stress-inducing unless you translate what you read on the thermometer into a scale that allows you to feel confident in your decision-making.
